MECIP undertook the Management & Engineering (M&E) Audit 2023 for Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn. Bhd. (GMD) to evaluate the company’s management and engineering performance in operating and maintaining its Natural Gas Distribution System (NGDS) throughout Peninsular Malaysia.

The audit aimed to assess GMD’s operational effectiveness, engineering practices, regulatory compliance, and overall management performance. It also focused on identifying key operational and management challenges and recommending practical improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, reliability, and service delivery.

The audit covered the financial years from 2020 to 2023 and addressed key areas of gas distribution operations, engineering asset integrity, procurement, human resource development, and legislative compliance.

• Gas Facilities Integrity: Assessment of network planning, engineering design, construction, maintenance practices, gas supply security, and distribution network reliability.

• Legislative Compliance: Assessment of compliance with applicable legislation, including the Gas Supply Act 1993, Gas Supply Regulations 1997, and relevant occupational safety and health requirements.
• Operational Performance Review: Examination of operational procedures, maintenance programmes, performance indicators, and industry benchmarking.
• Audit and Reporting: Review of relevant documentation, stakeholder interviews, site assessments, data analysis, compliance gap identification, and recommendations for improvement.
